The 'Raudive diode receiver' was originally conceived by Konstantin Raudive, a Latvian writer and parapsychologist, who developed the device as a means to isolate ethereal communications (evp) from audio noise while recording to an analogue tape recorder.

Konstantin undertook thousands of evp sessions and released designs for the 'Raudive diode receiver' in his book, released in 1971.Rather than a conventional microphone, which can pick up location noise, the 'Raudive diode receiver' relies on a germanium diode which acts as a crystal receiver similar to those used in old AM crystal Radios. With the white noise from the device supposedly acting as a carrier wave for evp communication.

The design is based on an original schematic from Konstantin Raudive but unlike any other 'Raudive diode' currently available, now includes an output amplifier stage.

While I cannot say that the device works for its original intended purpose of evp capture, it is a true analogue, interesting source of airwave noise for sound exploration.

Environmental changes such as location and time of day may all have an effect on what is received.

  • on/off power switch at rear of device
  • resistance change switch - experiment with the two positions on location
  • grounding touch points - if holding the device while in use, allows your body to become part of the circuitry.
  • 3.5mm mini jack stereo output
  • powered by 1 x CR2032 coin cell - not included
