De/Tune:

A custom wide band detuned radio for experimental sound exploration and evp research.

An ever changing source of unique sounds and transmissions.

Conventional radios often contain noise suppression (squelch) circuits to reduce/remove noise and interference generally considered undesirable. This includes electromagnetic fields, natural sources of RF like the sun, the earth, the ionosphere, as well as any transmission that does not meet the 'threshold' level - meaning it will never be heard on a conventional radio set.

These are the things we can explore with De/Tune...

Capable of receiving LF/AM/MW/SW/FM radio signals from across the globe and local electro magnetic fields (nearby equipment, mains hum, power surges)

Using De/Tune

The transmission signals it receives will greatly improve in the early morning, evening and night. This is due to changes in the ionosphere, allowing radio waves to penetrate further into the outer layers, providing a greater angle of reflection.

This results in improved signal strength and waves able to travel further across the globe.

As a general rule: The darker the sky the more varied transmissions it will receive - be that from day to night or changes in the weather.

Controls

  • Power on/off switch
  • Band Select knob - use to switch between LF/AM/MW/SW/FM
  • Frequency/Tuning knob - use to manually shift along the frequency band
  • Tune/Detune switch - select manual tuning via the control knob or disable the frequency control for a totally detuned radio set
  • 3 x touch plate - when in detuned mode, the touch plates allow tuning through touch
  • Sweep control and on/off switch - the pulse sweep control can be used when in detuned mode, allowing the set to automatically sweep through the selected band
  • Sweep rate LED indicator
  • Tune LED indicator - a two colour led that will shift from green to red when locked onto a transmission
  • Antenna - features an internal loopstick antenna as well as a 3 meter wire antenna - attach to the binding post to increase signal strength and increased transmissions received. Certainly do experiment with and without the external wire antenna
  • powered by 2 x AA batteries (not supplied)
  • 3.5mm mini jack stereo output - suitable for use with headphones
  • 1/4" mono jack output
